Proper Application of Liniment
Topical Liniments work best when they are applied as a ‘poultice’ to soak into the affected area for 20-60 minutes.
What is a Poultice?
A poultice is a soft, moist mass of material, typically of plant material, applied to the body to relieve soreness and inflammation and is kept in place with tape.
What You’ll Need:
- A Cotton ball or Gauze
- Medical Paper Tape
- Your liniment
*Note: Use either a cotton ball or gauze to soak up the appropriate volume of liquid to match the size of the area you would like to treat.
Step 1
Step 2
Step 3
- Gather your Materials: Cotton Ball, Medical Paper Tape, and your Liniment.
2. Soak The cotton ball with the Liniment so that the entire cotton ball is saturated. **Special Note: The cotton ball should still be dry upon light pressure, and you shouldn’t be able to squeeze any liquid out of the cotton ball.
3. Apply the saturated cotton ball to the area you would like to treat.
4. Secure the cotton ball down with horizontal strips of paper tape. This will allow the joint to move without pulling the tape up.
Congratulations! You just made a poultice! Do this 3-6 times a day for the affected area. It should last 20-60 minutes as long as you don’t rub it too much. Now enjoy the healing relief of your liniment. (:
